
Sri. Adyar K. Lakshman was discovered at a young
age for his exceptional musical and rhythmic talent. He
went on to pursue thorough education in fine arts in the
world acclaimed Kalakshetra under the tutelage of eminent
teachers including Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale herself, the
founder of Kalakshetra.
Sri. Lakshman underwent rigorous training in Vocal music,
Bharatanatyam, Mridangam, and Nattuvangam. Sri.
Lakshman founded in 1969 the 'Bharatha Choodamani'
Academy of fine arts in Chennai and ever since trained
numerous professional artists.
Sri. Lakshman received several awards for his outstanding
contribution to this art. He received the prestigious
'Padma Shree' award from the President of India in 1989.
Smt. Ratnam Janardhanan was born in Kerala and
trained under Kalamandalam Mannadiyar and Sadanam
Lakshmi Kutti from a tender age. She obtained Sangeet
Visharad degree in Bharatanatyam from Akhil Bharatiya
Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal.
Smt. Ratnam later established her dance school 'Pratibha
Nritya Mandir' at Nagpur in 1983 to propogate and
promote the traditional art form.
Smt. Bragha Bessell is the quintessential dancer,
totally immersed in the art of learning and in 'Abhinaya' -
the emotional aspects of the music she portrays. Smt.
Bragha has been a senior student of Sri. Adyar Lakshman
and Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan and is renowned for her
Abhinaya.
Smt. Bragha has often played the lead roles in her
teachers' dance productions and also teaches at her guru's
institute. With many awards to her credit, she has given
numerous performances in India and abroad. She has made
TV appearances in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Japan
and on AsiaNet.
